Originally from Charleston, West Virginia, Burns demonstrated a drive to succeed and entrepreneurial spirit early in life. By age eleven, he was the number one salesperson for the home-care product company, Fuller Brush. He followed this endeavor by establishing a landscaping company while still in high school.
Having secured a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a concentration in Real Estate Investment and Finance at The University of Texas, Burns obtained his real estate license prior to graduating. Kevin started his professional career at Gillingwater Properties from 1997-2000, where he developed his business foundation. Burns envisioned establishing his own business where he could pursue his passion for an urban lifestyle, real estate and local development, which soon became a reality in 2000 with the start of Urbanspace.
In 2008, Threshold Interiors, now Urbanspace Interiors, was founded. Under Kevin’s leadership in 2011, Urbanspace has evolved into a full-service firm when he combined Threshold Interiors and Urbanspace Real Estate. Currently, Urbanspace Real Estate + Interiors is operating within four pillars of residential real estate, commercial real estate, interior furnishings + design, and project operations & marketing.
Burns and the Urbanspace team closed all 274 units of the Seaholm Residences and is currently serving as the exclusive broker for The Independent, the tallest residential tower west of the Mississippi, expected to close out in 2019, and The LAAN, 78704’s newest townhome community currently under construction. Prior to Seaholm Residences, Burns sold out numerous condo projects ranging from 4 to 240 residences including Milago, Sixth and Brushy, Spaces 2525 and many more. Kevin exhibits true passion for what he sells and for what Urbanspace stands for within the community.
As an Austin resident for over twenty years, Kevin’s influence does not end with Urbanspace. A leading voice in Austin’s urban community, Kevin has proudly served as an Executive Committee member and board member of the Real Estate Council of Austin (RECA), and a RECA member for over 15 years. He actively participates as a member of the Downtown Austin Neighborhood Association, where he has served as Vice President and has Co-Chaired the Urban Development Council. Kevin has been a Urban Land Institute member since September 2004 and Co-Chair of ULI UDMUC local council. He is also the Incoming Events Chair for the Entrepreneurs Organization Austin (EO). Kevin was named The Top Producer by the Austin Business Journal in 2007 and 2017 and earned a spot on the Elite 25’s prestigious list of the top 1% of luxury REALTORS® in Austin in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2019. Burns has had over $775M contracted in Central Austin real estate.
Burns has driven positive change within the local community through a deep passion to further the urban lifestyle. He is an active member of Shoal Creek Conservancy and Waller Creek Conservancy and is also an active young leader mentor for ULI and regular sponsor for The Contemporary Austin, Center for Child Protection, Creative Action and other philanthropic pursuits centered around parks, children’s well-being and the arts. Burns is a true ambassador of Austin’s urban core and a proud resident of Downtown Austin.
